Description
This is a headstone located 15 metres south-east of the south aisle of the Church of St. Mary. It dates from 1822 and is made of sandstone. The headstone features a shaped top and bears an inscription dedicated to Henry Bower of Ellington. The inscription includes a verse that reflects on the nature of life and death, stating:
"Here lies within this hollow span
The relicks of an Honest Man
The grave, great teacher, to a level brings
Heroes and beggars, galley-slaves and kings,
Reader! he's flown to seek a purer sky
Go live like him, then with his calmness die."
