Description

Eastfield is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. It appears to incorporate earlier fabric. The house is constructed of squared stone, with timber bay windows set on stone bases; the roof is covered in Welsh slate, with leaded glazing on the bay windows. The building has two storeys and four irregularly spaced bays. A six-panel door, with a two-pane overlight, is positioned left-of-centre, and is protected by a 20th-century glazed porch. The end bays have canted windows with four-pane sashes, while the first floor features renewed twelve-pane sashes. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers, and the end stacks are stepped and corniced. The rear elevation includes a renewed twelve-pane sash window for the staircase on the right-hand wing.

Inside, a dogleg staircase has an open string, with two stick balusters per tread, a steeply ramped moulded handrail, moulded newels, and shaped tread ends. Panelled shutters are present throughout the property. The sitting room’s fireplace has a broad stone surround with stepped half-round moulding. On the first floor, there are two-panel closet doors fitted with H hinges.
