Description
The Corporation Arms Inn is a building from 1831 located at 840 Kelso Road. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a hipped slate roof. The inn has two storeys, with a stone band at the first floor level. The front has a central door with a plain fanlight, flanked by two windows on the ground floor and three windows above, although these are now boarded and the building is unoccupied. An elaborate town arms in painted relief is displayed over the front door, which includes the name of the mayor, making it an unusual example of an inn that belongs to the town. The inn is situated on the bank of a river, which means that the left-hand return side has a basement built into the river bank, effectively giving the building three storeys.
