Description

The Boy and Barrel Inn is an early to mid 19th century building located on Beastmarket. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a pitched slate roof. The inn stands three storeys tall and has a moulded eaves cornice along with a blocking course. There are three ranges of sash windows. The name "Boy and Barrel Inn" is displayed in a good sans-serif font between the first and second floors. Atop the blocking course, there is an over-lifesized figure of a boy sitting astride a barrel. The ground floor has a late 19th century wooden public house front, which is panelled to dado height, with glazed sections above that include some stained glass, and a moulded wooden cornice. To the northeast, there is a hammer-dressed stone extension that features a canted corner with a range of tripartite sash windows wrapping around it.
