Description

WHALTON TWIZELL NZ 17 NE 8 7/160 Farm buildings and attached wall, to west of Twizell Farmhouse GV II Barn, granary and attached wall. Mid-C18 except for early C19 granary. Squared stone with cut quoins and dressings; Welsh slates on granary, asbestos sheets on barn. Barn on west side of yard with L-plan granary at north end, and wall to south returning east to join Twizell Farmhouse (q.v.).

Single-storey barn has stable door and blocked doorway with inserted part-slatted window; both openings have triple-keyed lintels. To right, cart entrance with timber lintel. Left return shows slit vents and coped gable on kneelers. On far right 1 bay of 2-storey granary; stable door with part-slatted window over. South elevation of east arm of granary shows 2 similar windows above boarded door. Coped gables. Rear elevation of barn has 2 more doorways, one blocked, with triple-keyed lintels; wall to right with boarded door and 2 doorways in irregular block surrounds (one blocked) on right return linking to farmhouse.
