Description

The farm buildings and attached wall located to the west of Twizell Farmhouse date from the mid-18th century, with the granary built in the early 19th century. Constructed from squared stone with cut quoins and dressings, the granary features a Welsh slate roof, while the barn has an asbestos sheet roof. The barn is situated on the west side of the yard, with an L-plan granary at the north end and a wall to the south that returns east to connect with Twizell Farmhouse.

The single-storey barn includes a stable door and a blocked doorway, both featuring triple-keyed lintels, as well as an inserted part-slatted window. To the right, there is a cart entrance with a timber lintel. The left side of the barn displays slit vents and a coped gable on kneelers. The granary, which has one bay of two storeys on the far right, features a stable door with a part-slatted window above. The south elevation of the east arm of the granary has two similar windows above a boarded door, both with coped gables. The rear elevation of the barn contains two additional doorways, one of which is blocked, along with a wall to the right that has a boarded door and two doorways in irregular block surrounds, one of which is also blocked, linking back to the farmhouse.

This structure is part of an early planned foldyard group.
