Description

Twizell Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of squared stone with raised quoins and dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof with brick stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and originally had a symmetrical design with three bays. The central entrance has been renewed, featuring a two-pane overlight in an alternating-block stone surround with triple keystones. Four-pane sash windows are set within stone surrounds, with the upper windows beneath gablets featuring moulded bargeboards. The roof has overhanging eaves, and the end stacks have been rebuilt onto their original bases. A contemporary wing extends to the rear, featuring a twelve-pane Yorkshire sash window in a stone surround, and a return on the right side of the building. The farmhouse is included on the list for its group value with the early, planned foldyard buildings nearby.
