Description
The drinking fountain, located 20 meters southeast of the Gray Art Gallery and Museum, was built in 1902 and is made of ornamental polychrome faience set on stone steps. It has a triangular plan and features a moulded cornice on the pedestal, ramped angle buttresses, and cyma recta moulding on a plinth that rests on circular-plan steps. Each face of the pedestal has a segmental-arched opening, with angle pilaster strips, a continuous entablature, and a shallow parapet adorned with urn finials at the corners. At the top, there is a hexagonal quasi-lantern with a pyramidal roof and a ball finial. The fountain is positioned within the arched openings, and a plaque on the north face of the lantern reads: "Presented by Henry Withy, J.P., May 24th 1902." Originally, the fountain was erected in Burn Valley Gardens and was relocated to its current site in 1979.
