Description
No. 12, which was formerly listed as Houndgate Chambers, is an early 19th-century villa with wide proportions. The building has two storeys and a basement, featuring five windows. It has a fairly low-pitched slated roof that is hipped on the left side and includes an end chimney. The sash windows, mostly with glazing bars, have gauged flat brick arches and are set in flush wood architraves. The centre window on the first floor has been replaced and is round-headed.
The entrance section projects and is finished in stucco, complete with a cornice and blocking course. The doorway features a segmental arch with sidelights and a blocked fanlight, accessed by two steps. The rear elevation includes two canted bays, each with hipped roofs and three replaced sash windows. Both floors have cill bands, and the window arches are stuccoed. There is a central replaced pedimented doorcase. A late 19th-century extension is located at the back of the building. The wall near the house is made of brick, while the section farther south is constructed of red sandstone with flat coping, possibly dating from the 18th century.
