Description
Central Hall, designed by architect John Middleton, was completed in 1846. It is a two-storey building with a blank attic and consists of seven bays. The structure is made of pinkish brick with stone dressings. The first floor is notably tall, featuring windows on either side of a slightly projecting central bay, which are set in two-storey round-arched recesses with stone architraves and an impost string. The ground floor windows have shouldered stone lintels, while the first floor windows have radial heads and pivoted sashes with glazing bars. The two bays on the left side are blank. The attic storey includes sunk brick panels. The building has a bracketed eaves cornice and a slated roof with a moderately low pitch, complete with end chimneys. The central bay is blank above a narrow doorway that is flanked by stone pilasters and an entablature, with sidelights. John Middleton also designed Cheltenham Ladies' College and the Church of St John on Neasham Road.
