Description
24 Blackwellgate is an early 19th-century, three-storey, one-bay house that features later 19th-century decorative elements. The building has a two-storey oriel window that is triangular in shape. It showcases large windows with cast-iron pilasters and rounded arches, with human heads projecting from ornamental spandrels on the first floor. Above, the spandrels are similar but do not have heads. There is panelling and medallions between the floors, and the ground floor has a plain mid-19th-century shop front.
The rear of the property faces Houndgate and has an early 18th-century, three-storey, three-window front that has been altered. It is constructed of old pinkish brick and features a parapet front. The first floor has cambered arches above replaced sash windows in flush box frames, with wooden architraves above. On the ground floor, there is a new yard door, an altered door, and a blocked window on the left wall, which has been renewed in modern brick. Part of the roof has been covered with modern tiles.
