Description
1 and 2 The College is a building of medieval and later origins, currently serving as a garage and studio with a house. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a roof made of graduated Lakeland slates, complemented by three rows of stone slates at the eaves and brick chimneys. The structure stands two storeys tall and consists of six irregular bays. On the left side, there are two garage entrances, while a boarded door with a chamfered surround is located on the right. The first floor has four blocked openings, likely used for a loft, which are topped with flattened Tudor-arched lintels. The windows vary in style, including horizontal sliding sashes in chamfered surrounds, a renewed cross window, and a central rectangular boarded loft opening with a chamfered surround and flat stone sill. The roof features slightly swept eaves, with chimneys positioned at the ends and behind the ridge at the center.
Inside, the north gable displays wood studding with brick nogging. The roof trusses include arched tie beams, clasped purlins, and king posts above the collars, with a ridge piece set into the sides of the king posts and braced to them.
