Description
St John's College is a house that has been converted into a college. It dates from the 17th century, with a front added in the 18th century. The exterior features painted incised stucco and a Welsh slate roof with renewed brick chimneys. The building has three storeys and one bay. On the left side, there is a six-panel door with a patterned overlight, framed by a wooden architrave and topped with a bracketed hood. The ground floor includes a central 16-pane sash window and a small plain square window on the right, with 16-pane sash windows above, all set in plain reveals. There are two chimneys at the ends of the building and a boot-scraper recess next to the door. The interior is reported to have two staircases from around 1670; both are closed-string with square newels. The front staircase is a well stair with a flat handrail, while the rear staircase has only one flight with a high roll handrail.
