Description

High West Wood is a house, formerly an inn, with attached outbuildings, dated 1753, featuring the initials J:J on the door lintel. The house incorporates older fabric and is constructed of roughly-squared stone, with some areas of older rubble in the lower walls. The outbuildings are made of rubble and date from the 18th century or early 19th century. Both the house and outbuildings have graduated stone slate roofs.

The house is two storeys high with two bays. It has a central renewed door set in a chamfered stone surround and four-pane casement windows that mimic sash windows. There are end stacks on either side. The outbuilding range to the left is also two storeys and has four irregular bays. It features two boarded doors and a boarded pitching door in irregular-block surrounds, along with two part-slatted windows. The left return of the outbuilding shows two raking buttresses.

In the 19th century, the house was known as the Reservoir Inn, as indicated on the first edition Ordnance Survey 6-inch to 1-mile map. At the time of the survey, the outbuildings were in poor condition.
