Description

BOWES A66 NY 91 SW (South side) Old Spital Farmhouse 18/8 (Formerly listed as 12/1/67 old Spital) II Large farmhouse. Late C18 with mid C19 additions. Rendered and painted rubble; squared rubble additions (right return is weatherboarded below gable; rear wing has hung Welsh slates on gable end). Stone-flagged roofs and stone chimney stacks. Main block with wing attached to rear of right return.

2-storey main block of 5 irregular bays; left bay is C19 addition. Low plinth. Third bay has replaced 6-panel door in pedimented doorcase with Tuscan pilasters. 9-pane sashes in raised, tooled surrounds. Left bay has replaced 12-pane sashes with tooled-and-margined lintels and projecting sills. Roof with coped gables. Left end stack and 2 ridge stacks with top bands.

2-storey, 3-bay rear wing has replaced 12-pane sashes.

Farmbuildings attached to left are not of special interest.
