Description
Old Spital Farmhouse is a large farmhouse dating from the late 18th century, with mid-19th century additions. The building is constructed of rendered and painted rubble, with squared rubble additions. The right return features weatherboarding below the gable, while the rear wing has hung Welsh slates on its gable end. The roofs are stone-flagged, and there are stone chimney stacks. The main block has a wing attached to the rear of the right return.
The main block is two stories high with five irregular bays; the left bay is a 19th-century addition. It has a low plinth, and the third bay features a replaced six-panel door set in a pedimented doorcase with Tuscan pilasters. There are nine-pane sash windows in raised, tooled surrounds. The left bay has replaced twelve-pane sashes with tooled-and-margined lintels and projecting sills. The roof has coped gables, with a stack at the left end and two ridge stacks with top bands.
The two-story, three-bay rear wing has replaced twelve-pane sashes. The farm buildings attached to the left are not of special interest.
