Description

This listing describes a group of three small headstones located 12 meters south of the Church of St. Romald in Romaldkirk. The headstones commemorate William Walton, who died in 1758; Elizabeth Walton, who died in 1747; and Mary Horn, who died in 1767. They are all made of sandstone and are believed to have been crafted by the same mason. Each headstone features scrolled tops and recessed panels with simple inner edge mouldings. The reverse side of William Walton's headstone bears the inscription:

"Look mortal man as thou goes by
As thou are now so once was I,
As I am now so must thou be
prepare thyself to follow me."
