Description
The garden wall to the west and south of Romaldkirk House is a late 18th-century structure, with a short, ramped-up section to the north that was rebuilt in 1860. It is constructed of squared rubble and has an L-shape, measuring approximately 45 metres along the west wall and 35 metres along the south wall.
The tall, flat-coped west wall connects to the west end of the glazed walkway of Romaldkirk House and extends south for about 45 metres. The short ramped-up section to the north features a pair of replaced doors set in a raised surround with top blocks, and above the doorway is a datestone inscribed with "H.C. 1860," referring to Henry Cleveland, the former Rector. The wall has a rounded south-west corner.
The lower south wall runs east at a right angle for about 35 metres and is raked down to the east. The rebuilt south-east corner and the rubble wall to the north of the west wall are not considered of special interest. This garden wall is included for its group value with Romaldkirk House.
