Description
The Kirk Inn is a public house located in Romaldkirk, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from squared sandstone and features both stone-flagged and stone-tiled roofs, along with stone chimney stacks. The building has an L-plan layout, with the main block and a wing attached to the rear of the right side.
The main block is two stories high and has three bays, characterized by raised-and-chamfered quoins. The central and right bays have a 20th-century stone window bay, while the left bay features a replaced two-pane sash window in a moulded surround, with identical sashes above in projecting surrounds. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with flags, featuring coped gables and shaped kneelers. There are end stacks with top bands and water tables, and a 19th-century canted bay window is present on the right return. Access to the inn is through a two-story porch that is attached to the rear of the right return.
The rear wing is long and low, also two stories tall, and has two replaced sash windows. It has a low-pitched stone-tiled roof with a coped gable on the right side, along with right end and tall ridge stacks. There are brick additions to the rear wing, but these are not considered of special interest.
