Description
Beckwath is a large house built around 1800. It is constructed from squared sandstone rubble, featuring a stone-flagged roof and stone chimney stacks. The building has a reversed E-plan and is two stories tall with a symmetrical seven-bay front. The façade includes a low plinth and raised-and-chamfered quoins. The central doorway is framed by a modern ashlar stone architrave and a modern moulded stone entablature supported by consoles, with a replaced timber and glazed door. The windows are leaded cross casements set in raised moulded surrounds, which are elongated on the ground floor. The gutter is supported by paired square stone brackets. The roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers, with stepped-and-corniced end stacks that feature water tables. At the rear, there are two gabled end wings and a set-back gabled center, with scattered 12-pane sashes in raised moulded surrounds.
Inside, there is a dogleg staircase consisting of two flights plus a landing rail, which has turned balusters and a ramped handrail.
