Description
High Bishopley Farmhouse and the adjoining barn date from around 1700, with alterations made around 1800. The buildings are constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, featuring incised stucco on the house and ashlar dressings. They have an irregular plinth and stone-flagged roofs. The farmhouse is 2½ storeys tall with irregular fenestration, including a boarded door and a 3-pane overlight to the left of the second bay. It has late 19th-century sash windows in the outer bays and a similar smaller sash window above and to the right of the door. There are also two small 2-light windows at the eaves and a blocked 2-light stone-mullioned window revealed to the right of the door. The low-pitched roof has end chimneys with thin strings, and the right return gable features through-stones below the chimney.
The lower barn on the right has a partly-glazed boarded door in a plain stone surround at the left of the second bay, with a similar surround for a partly-glazed loft opening above and to the right of the door. There is an inserted window at the ground floor left under a flat stone lintel and vent slits above. The rear elevation has wide one-storey pent outshuts at either end of the house, while the central section of the rear wall has blocked single-chamfered stone windows on both the ground and first floors. The barn includes two ground-floor byre entrances with boarded doors in plain stone surrounds, side steps leading to a similar loft door, and vent slits. The interior has not been inspected.
