Description

The Western Limekiln, located on the north bank of Bollihope Burn, is a lime kiln likely built in the mid-19th century for the Stockton and Darlington Railway Company. It is constructed of thin coursed squared sandstone, with the kiln lining possibly made of yellow brick. The structure features four segmental arches supported by short piers that are continuous with the arches. The tall front wall has courses of vertical stones below the top and serves as coping. The left kiln includes two keyhole arches at the rear of its domed lining, while the remaining three kilns are either damaged or filled with rubble.
