Description
Clerk's House and the Cottage attached to the right of Thornley House is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the early 19th century, with a mid-19th century addition. The building is constructed from squared sandstone and features stone-tiled roofs and dressed stone chimney stacks.
The main block is two stories high and has three bays, with a two-story cross-gabled bay (The Cottage) projecting at the rear. The main block has a central panelled door that is set behind an early 20th-century pedimented glazed wood porch. On either side of the door are mid-19th century canted bay windows with hipped roofs. Above, there are three replaced sash windows with projecting sills. The steeply-pitched roof has end stacks with top bands.
The Cottage has replaced sash windows with projecting sills, with paired windows on the ground floor. It also features a coped front gable with shaped kneelers and a first-floor wood oriel window on the right return. There is a mid-20th century set-back bay on the right return of The Cottage, which is not of interest. The building is included for its group value.
