Description
No. 23 North Bailey is a house dating from around 1700, with some openings added in the early 19th century. The exterior features pebble-dash rendering with painted ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof, complemented by rendered and brick chimneys. The building has two storeys and attics, arranged in four bays.
The second bay contains a partly-glazed six-panel door set within an architrave, while the fourth bay features a half-glazed door, also in an architrave. Both doors have 20th-century hoods supported by wrought iron brackets. The first and third bays are fitted with 16-pane sash windows that include glazing bars, with an opening pane located at the top right of the first bay.
The house has bargeboarded gabled dormers with slate-hung cheeks, which hold late 19th-century sash windows. A massive rendered chimney is located at the left end, featuring a string course halfway up the roof and two set-backs, while the right end chimney has been raised using newer brick. At the rear, a cross-wing gable rises above the ridge on the right side. Additionally, there is an ogee-headed boot-scraper positioned to the right of the first door.
