Description
St. Chad's is a house that has been converted into a college, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of English bond brick with a painted ashlar plinth and dressings, and the roof is not visible. The building has three storeys and features two windows. On the left side, there is a six-panel door set in a raised surround with a cornice. The windows have flat brick arches and projecting stone sills, with the single ground floor window consisting of 16 panes, all fitted with glazing bars. At the top, there is a stone-coped parapet. A rendered rear wing with a gable can be seen behind the front range. The right end has a banded brick chimney. There is a fluted and moulded rainwater head on the right, supported by lugs that hold the drain. The rear gable displays floor bands and tumbled-in brickwork. Inside, there is a close-string dog-leg staircase with a flat handrail supported by barley-sugar balusters and rectangular newels.
