Description
Lightfoot House, part of St Chad's College, is a late 17th-century building that originally served as a house. It is constructed of brick in varying bonds, featuring painted ashlar dressings and a plinth, with the roof not visible. The structure has three storeys and two windows. On the left side, there is a six-panel door set within an architrave that includes a pulvinated frieze and cornice. The windows have flat brick arches and projecting stone sills, with sashes that include glazing bars—16 panes on both the ground and first floors. The second floor has three blocked windows with header-course lintels. Notable exterior details include moulded brick floor-level strings and a dog-tooth eaves cornice, along with a boot-scraper and a coal chute.
Inside, the staircase features a wide grip handrail supported by two turned balusters per tread. The handrail and the panelled dado are ramped, and the tread ends are patterned.
