Description

No. 196 is a house located on the south side of Gilesgate, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It features incised stucco and a Welsh slate roof with a brick chimney. The building is two storeys high and has two bays. On the left side, there is a recessed four-panelled door with an overlight, set within a panelled surround. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, with glazing bars on the first-floor sashes. The low-pitched roof includes a chimney at the right end and paired gutter brackets.
