Description

The milestone at Hanging Shaw is a Grade II listed structure, likely dating from around 1830 and commissioned by the London Lead Company. It is made of painted ashlar and stands approximately 0.6 metres high, featuring a chamfered round top. The front of the milestone has the inscriptions "ALSTON 16" and "MIDDLETON 6" incised and painted in Roman capitals.
