Description
This milestone, located 200 metres east of Wad Hazel Sike, is a Grade II listed structure, likely dating from around 1830 and commissioned by the London Lead Company. It is made of painted ashlar and stands approximately 0.9 metres high with a rounded top. The front features the names "ALSTON" and "MIDDLETON" painted in black Roman capitals, with an Ordnance Survey bench mark incised below. The road where it is situated was engineered by J.L. McAdam.
