Description
The former hearse house, likely built in the mid-19th century after the road was constructed in 1830, is located on the south side of Newbiggin along the B6277. It is made of sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of one bay. It features boarded double doors set in a round-headed vehicle entrance with voussoirs. The left side has flat stone lintels above a blocked door and a large blocked window with a projecting stone sill; the external stairs have been removed. The front gable has a chimney at the top, while the rear gable has a second chimney, both of which have string courses at the level of the slates. This structure is included for its historical interest.
