Description
The former explosives store, located on the south side of the track at Coldberry Mine in Middleton in Teesdale, is a building that likely dates back to the early 19th century, with adaptations made in the mid-19th century. Constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins, it features a stone-flagged roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of three narrow bays, with a rear entry leading to the first floor.
The front elevation facing the track has a central blocked door with a flat stone lintel, behind which is a stone slab with a slit opening. Above this, there is another blocked opening with a wooden lintel and sill. The left side of the building has a blocked door towards the front, while the right side features two copper loops that once held a lightning conductor and a narrow vent slit at the peak of the gable. At the rear, there is a first-floor door that has been blocked with a zinc sheet, situated under a wooden lintel and supported by wooden brackets for a hood.
The current use of the building is not known.
