Description
Marl Beck Mine Shop and Level is a lead mine lodging shop and level, likely built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a stone-flagged roof. The level features coursed rubble walls that support a roughly-shaped arch.
The shop is two storeys high and has three bays. There are flat stone lintels above empty doorways in the two right bays, and two wide openings on the first floor in the outer bays, each with flat stone sills. The entrance to the level, located about 3 metres to the right, is approximately 1.5 metres high and features a segmental arch. This building is included for its historical interest as a remnant of the significant lead mining industry in the area during the 19th century. It was empty at the time of the survey.
