Description

The wall and gates surrounding the yard of the Church of St Helen in Bishop Auckland are likely from the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared stone with dressed coping, featuring ashlar piers and wrought-iron gates. The square gate piers are set on small plinths and topped with low pyramidal coping. The wall is made of graduated courses of square rubble, enclosing the churchyard. The double gates are adorned with cross finials on the standards and dogbars. This structure is included for its group value with the church.
