Description
The West Auckland Working Men's Club is a house that has been converted into a club. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with quoins and painted ashlar dressings, while the right side features rubble with brick patching. The roof is covered with concrete tiles.
The structure stands three stories high and has three windows. The central entrance features a wide renewed double door with an overlight that has patterned glazing bars, all set in a painted wood surround with a cornice supported by simple pilasters adorned with paterae. The windows have flat stone lintels and projecting painted stone sills, with renewed sashes on the lower floors, and flat sills on the second floor. The ground floor has renewed glazing with longer upper sashes; there is a plain window on the left and a very wide tripartite window on the right. The upper floors have smaller windows, with the sashes containing four panes and the upper lights featuring segmental heads.
