Description
Vanbrugh House is a former coach house that has been converted into a private residence. It dates from the early 18th century and features a late 20th-century addition on the left side. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and the lower courses are made of coursed rubble. The returns of the structure are rendered, and the roof is covered with synthetic tiles.
The house is two storeys tall and has six windows. All doors and windows have been replaced. The third bay contains a six-panel door set in a raised stone surround, which includes plinths, impost bands, and a round head with a large elongated key. A similar surround is found on the glazed door in the fifth bay. The windows feature sills and impost bands, with 9-pane fixed lights and radiating top glazing bars set in raised stone surrounds. The heads of the windows rest on an impost band and have triple keys, with the central key resembling those above the doors. The first-floor 9-pane lights also have triple keys that rise to the eaves. The bands continue across the late 20th-century left extension. The hipped roof has swept eaves, and the right return of the building has a blocked vehicle arch.
