Description
This lamp post, located 1.5 metres west of number 12 in Brancepeth village, dates back to 1863. It is made of cast iron and features a thin, tapering design with a reeded, cylindrical lower half and an octagonal-section upper half. The post has several necking bands adorned with various decorative motifs in relief, including lion-masks, gadrooning, and spear-shaped leaves. At the base, there is a scrolled design on a cross-plan plinth that bears a now-illegible manufacturer's name in an oval panel. Flanking the post are double-scrolled ladder-rests beside a knop that displays the year 1863 in raised letters. The lamp is topped with a glazed, square-plan lantern that has outward-sloping panes and a cylindrical top vent with an acorn finial.
