Description
A row of three houses, numbered 2, 3 (now two dwellings), 3A, and 4, built in the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The houses are constructed of pebble-dashed rubble, with renewed pantiled roofs, except for the roof of No. 2. The chimney stacks have been rebuilt in brick. There are two storeys. No. 2 is a single bay dwelling, while the central house and No. 4 each have two bays. A continuous plinth runs along the base. The windows have wedge lintels and projecting sills; the sills are mostly stone, though the central house has concrete sills. The doors have been replaced, with No. 2 featuring a 3-pane overlight. The central house includes a re-set bullseye window, inscribed "H.T. 1730," above a pair of doorways, and also has cross casement windows. Elsewhere, the windows are replaced sashes: No. 2 has 12-pane sashes, and No. 4 has 16-pane sashes. The eaves line is level, and the roofs are steeply pitched. The central house has a stone-coped gable with a shaped kneeler on the left side, and a slightly higher ridge flanked by chimney stacks. Unremarkable 20th-century additions to the rear of each house are not of particular interest. The central house is included in the listing for its contribution to the group value, as numbers 1 to 12 (consecutive) form a continuous row.
