Description
No. 9 South Bailey is a house that consists of two sections, with the first section built in the early 18th century and the second section added in the 20th century. The building is constructed of English garden wall bond brick with painted ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys. It stands three storeys tall with five bays on the first section and two storeys with two bays on the second section.
The first section features a six-panel door with a patterned fanlight set within an open-pedimented doorcase on the left side. The ground floor has paired narrow sash windows in each bay, along with a sill band. The second floor has similar windows with projecting stone sills. The first-floor sashes, which have glazing bars, also feature projecting stone sills that replace the sill band, and there are header-course lintels above. There are two chimneys at the ends of this section.
The second section includes an oriel bow on the left side above paired sash windows with glazing bars. It has a central many-panelled door and a coach door on the right side beneath a sash window. The eaves are deeply overlapping with swept bracketed details.
Inside, the property is reported to have an open-string dog-leg staircase with a ramped handrail supported by Tuscan column balusters.
