Description
St Cuthbert's Society is a house, now divided into two, dating from the late 18th century. It features pebble-dash render with an ashlar plinth and painted ashlar dressings, while the roof is not visible and there is a brick chimney. The building has three storeys and five bays. There are steps leading up to six-panel doors framed by architraves; the door in the third bay has a panelled reveal and a panel above it, while the door to the left of the fifth bay has a boarded reveal with a four-pane overlight. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, with sashes that include glazing bars and an irregular arrangement. A round-headed stair sash window with glazing bars is located between the doors at the inter-floor level.
A square gas lamp on a wrought-iron bracket is positioned over the door of No. 8, and boot-scraper recesses are found flanking each door. Inside, there is a 'Geometric' cantilevered stair with shaped tread ends and slender square balusters that support a narrow grip handrail.
