Description
No. 6, South Part is a house dating from around 1700. It is built of English garden wall bond brick, mostly with eight courses and one, and features painted ashlar dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate, and there is an ashlar-corniced brick chimney. The house has three storeys and four bays with irregular window arrangements.
There are two internal steps leading up to a partly-glazed six-panel door set in a Venetian doorcase with Ionic columns, along with a patterned overlight and fanlight. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, most of which have been renewed, and they feature header-course lintels and projecting stone sills. The building has two-brick-wide floor level bands and a tall chimney at the right end. An ashlar coal chute is present, complete with a wrought iron grille.
Inside, the open-string staircase has a ramped grip handrail supported by two turned balusters for each tread and Tuscan newels. The first flight of stairs is located in the center of the well and has two balustrades, leading to dog-leg upper flights.
