Description

This is a cast-iron milepost dating from around 1792, located 10 metres north of Restalrig. It has a triangular plan with a flat top and stands approximately 0.75 metres high. The milepost is painted white, featuring raised letters painted black. On the south-east face, it indicates "SD" for Sunderland at a distance of 14 miles, while the north-east face shows "SN" for Stockton at a distance of 13 miles.
