Description

Factory Dene House, Factory Wayside, and Factory Woodside are a row of three houses that were once part of a cottage industry complex, built around 1800 with 20th-century alterations. The front is made of limestone rubble, while the rear is rendered brick, topped with pantiled roofs and rendered chimneys. Each house has two storeys, except for No. 7, which has a basement, and all have three bays with a central doorway.

No. 7 stands out as it is taller and breaks forward compared to the others. It features dressed quoins and a pedimented two-storey central bay that also projects forward. The house has a 20th-century six-panel door with a two-pane overlight set in a Tuscan doorcase with a bowed entablature. The basement windows are blocked, and there are late 20th-century casements. The eaves have a dentilled brick band, and the roof has coped gables, shaped kneelers, and end chimneys.

Nos. 6 and 8 also have pedimented Tuscan doorcases, with No. 8 featuring a 19th-century six-panel door. They are flanked by early 20th-century paired two-pane sashes with leaded lights; No. 6 has three similar single windows above, while No. 8 has three 16-pane sashes above. The roofs, with No. 8's roof recently renewed, have end gable copings and chimneys.

Each house has a two-storey wing attached to the rear, with mainly replaced windows; No. 8 has two large sliding sashes below the eaves, and Nos. 6 and 8 have tall central ridge stacks.

Together, Nos. 6, 7, and 8 create a symmetrical tripartite composition with lower, flanking wings that break back.
