Description
This is a mid-to-late 18th century house, likely originally a mill manager's residence. It was restored in the 1970s. The house is constructed of ashlar stone, with a plinth and rusticated quoins, and returns of coursed rubble. The roof is covered in renewed stone slates, with stone gable copings, kneelers with pendant moulding, and corniced ashlar chimneys.
The building is three storeys high with a four-window front. The front door is within a doorcase of Tuscan pilasters and a pedimented entablature, situated in the second bay. An elliptical carriage arch to the left of the door has been blocked and replaced with a sash window. All windows have renewed plain sashes in architraves; the second-floor windows are smaller and feature heads projecting from an eaves entablature with a gutter cornice. The roof has stone gable copings on kneelers with pendant moulding, including corniced end chimneys. The right return has plain stone surrounds to sashes on two intermediate levels. The left return is linked to a former mill by a lower range.
Inside, a close string dogleg staircase rises over four flights and incorporates a ramped rail, urn and skittle balusters, and a grip handrail. A front right ground floor room features corniced raised and fielded panelling above a removed dado line.
