Description

The Blue Bell Public House is a house that has been converted into an inn, dating from the late 18th century. It is built from coursed squared stone with quoins and ashlar dressings, and features a roof made of concrete tiles with stone gable copings and brick chimneys. The building stands three storeys high and has a two-window range, along with a two-storey, one-window rear wing.

The central entrance consists of a six-panel door set within a 20th-century porch, which is topped by an 18th-century hood. To the left, there is a shallow canted bay window from the 19th century, featuring a flat roof and four-pane sash windows. On the right, there is a clasping projection with a canted corner and 20th-century glazing. The upper floors have paired windows with tooled stone surrounds and stone mullions, all of which have been replaced with four-pane sashes.

The roof is adorned with gable copings on moulded kneelers and has corniced end chimneys, with the left chimney made of red brick and the right chimney made of yellow brick. The right side of the building, facing Bridgegate, has a plain stone surround for a three-pane sash window on the ground floor and a small four-pane sash window on the second floor, both featuring flat stone lintels and sills. The rear wing includes a blocked door on the left, a wide ground-floor sash window with one-over-three panes, and a small four-pane sash window on the second floor, all with flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. There is an end chimney on the wing. The interior has not been inspected.
