Description
This is a mid-18th century house, with alterations from the 19th century, located on Thorngate in Barnard Castle. The house is constructed of coursed squared rubble with painted ashlar dressings, and has a renewed roof of stone-like slates, stone gable copings, and a roughly rendered rubble chimney. It is a three-storey building with a two-window front. The right side features paired openings; the right is an open passage under a plain stone lintel with a rendered right jamb, and the left has a half-glazed four-panel door in a plain stone surround. Plain sash windows are set in plain stone surrounds with slightly projecting sills; the ground-floor window on the left shares a lintel and right jamb with the door. The low-pitched roof has a right gable coping on a moulded kneeler. The interior was not inspected. Group value is attributed due to its contribution to the streetscape.
