Description

This shop dates to 1871, as indicated by a date in the gable. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The roof has stone gable coping and a cast iron balustrade. The building is in a Gothic style. A half-glazed door is located on the right, with an entrance to the yard on the left. These openings feature chamfered pilasters with carved quatrefoil ornament. The central two-light shop window has pointed segmental arches resting on pilasters, with crocketed capitals and clasping rings, all set within a wide chamfered segmental arch. A ground-floor cornice sits above brackets on the gabled fascia. The first floor has an oriel window; the lower part is boarded, and the upper part has a pierced trefoil parapet. Above the oriel are paired sash windows with chamfered brick and stone jambs, a flat stone lintel, and a sill. Quatrefoil-decorated blocks support the coped gable above the window and terminate the roof balustrade, which features scrolled foliage. An iron finial adorns the gable. An end chimney has ashlar sloped coping and square yellow pots.
