Description

No. 1 Horse Market, also known as No. 1A Hall Street, is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It dates from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with a tiled ridge and a stone chimney.

It stands three stories high and has a three-window range, with a two-storey rear wing that forms No. 1A Hall Street. The ground floor includes a wide elliptical arch leading to Hall Street, adorned with street signs for Horse Market and Market Place. To the left, there is a late 19th-century shop front featuring slender wooden mullions and shaped lights, with blocked ventilation slits in the heads. The fascia has been renewed and is situated under a cornice, with a canvas canopy supported by hinged iron stays. Above the shop, there is a corniced canted bay window with plain sashes. The window above the arch and three smaller windows on the second floor also have similar plain sashes set in projecting stone surrounds. The low-pitched roof has a tall chimney on the left end that features decorative bands.

No. 1A Hall Street has a central door with plain stone surrounds and flanking sashes that include glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected.
