Description
Winston Bridge, over the River Tees, is a road bridge built between 1762 and 1763 by Sir Thomas Robinson. It is constructed of squared sandstone with ashlar voussoirs. The bridge features a slightly-recessed round arch that spans 34 metres and is currently supported by eight iron tie rods and plates for stabilization. The abutments have raking buttressed faces. The parapet has a slightly-projecting coping on square brackets and is cambered over the arch, with breaks on either side to create pedestrian refuges. The wing walls end in low square piers topped with pyramidal caps. Additionally, the west end of the bridge is slightly canted in its design. Part of the bridge is located in Winston parish.
