Description

Ovington Edge is a house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a rear outshut and an east addition from the later 18th century. The main part of the house was refenestrated in the early 19th century.

The building is constructed of rubble with long, roughly-shaped quoins and cut dressings. The east elevation is made of brick in an irregular bond, while the rear retains its rubble. It features pantile roofs with old stacks. The house has two storeys and three bays, along with a lower two-storey, one-bay extension on the right.

The central window is a 12-pane sash, likely where a door once was, flanked by 16-pane sashes, one of which has been renewed. The first floor has renewed 16-pane sashes, and the left windows are set in surrounds made from reused older dressings, with a right end jamb indicating a former doorway. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers, and there are banded end stacks. The extension includes 20th-century glazed doors in an old cart entrance, a blocked flat-arched doorway on the left, and a low first-floor window beneath the eaves. The right gable is coped on a moulded kneeler and features an end stack. The left return has a 4-pane attic casement and a 12-pane Yorkshire sash in the rear outshut, while the right return shows a small attic window.

On the rear elevation, the left bay of the main part has a projecting stair wing with a renewed door and a 6-pane casement in stone surrounds, topped with a coped gable on moulded kneelers. The interior has not been seen but has undergone significant alterations in the late 20th century. The altered outbuildings to the northwest are not of special interest.
