Description
Nos. 25 and 27 Front Street are two houses built in the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. They feature rough render with ashlar dressings and a pantiled roof, which has been renewed over No. 23 on the left return, while the front eaves have stone slates. The buildings are arranged in an L-plan and consist of two storeys, with four irregular bays and three bays in the left return.
No. 27 has a six-panel door located in the third bay, flanked by pilasters and topped with a small cornice, along with an overlight above set in a corniced architrave. The left end has a slightly chamfered surround to a partly-glazed door, while the right end features a wide-chamfered surround to a similar door. There is a corniced bow window to the left and a 20th-century four-light window inserted to the right of the main door. The first bay and the first floor have late 19th-century sash windows with projecting stone sills. The roof is hipped on the left side and has a square ridge stack.
The left return of the building includes late 19th-century sash windows in No. 27, a renewed boarded door, and late 19th-century type sashes in No. 25. There are two corniced brick chimneys, one of which has been renewed, at the ends of No. 25. The houses are included for their group value.
