Description
Sledge Meadows is a farmhouse located on a promontory formed by Little Nookton Burn. It consists of two sections, with dates of 1619 and 1679 marked on the lintels. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble, with some areas thinly rendered, featuring large quoins and a visible boulder plinth at the right end. The roof is made of stone flags.
The older section, likely the original farmhouse, has one tall storey and two bays, designed as a through-passage type. The left addition has two storeys and also consists of two bays. There is an irregular oak lintel over an empty doorway in the second bay, along with some alternate-block jambs. A blocked door in the third bay has a window inserted, with a similar lintel inscribed TEW 1679. In the fourth bay, there is a Tudor-arched doorway with a lintel inscribed TEW 1619, supported by large irregular-block jambs, featuring roll moulding and a moulded chamfer.
The left section has a wood lintel over the ground-floor window opening, while the first-floor openings have flat stone lintels and sills. The quoins and first-floor windows were added in the 19th century. The low-pitched roof has end chimneys on the two-storey part. At the time of the survey, the building was empty and used as a hay store.
