Description
The well house, located opposite the Black Horse Inn, dates back to 1743 and was built for William Darnell and Thomas Rippon, as indicated by the inscription above the door. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and quoins, and features a concrete roof. The structure is octagonal and stands about 2 meters high. On the south-east face, there is a blocked door with stone jambs beneath a moulded lintel, which has names inscribed in the center, flanked by a Roman date. The building is topped with flat stone coping and has an inserted flat concrete roof.
